Toshiba Satellite A665 Keyboard Backlight Not Working

Hi,
I recently bought a Satellite A665-14G, everything was working fine.
Then suddenly the next day of the purchase date, the keyboard was not illuminated.
So I pressed the FN + Z keys combination, and nothing happened.
I tried to press other FN key combinations and none worked.
So i'm assuming that the FN key is no longer working.
What could have caused this and how can I restore its functionality?

Hi
Do other FN + F buttons work correctly?
For example FN + F6, FN + F7 and so on.?
If yes then the FN buttons are OK and I think only the illumination has been disabled.
Usually in BIOS you can enable and disable the illumination.
Check this!
But if other FN buttons dont work, then you should reinstall the VAP (value added package) and Flash Card Support Utility.
Both tools can be downloaded from Toshiba driver page.

  • Hi Everyone,

Just within this week, the special function key not working, each time I start the pc, i have to go into toshiba desktop assist then function key then click ok, it will working.
But the touch pad has been set as enabled, also under keyboard setting has been set as special function mode. But don't know why each time start the pc have to go into function key box then click ok.
When I bought it everything is ok, i can use the special function key to turn up and down the volume and disable wireless...etc

Function key changes in Satellite and Qosmio 800 series
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2903E00000R01.htm
You can use the traditional FN + F key mode or just an F key mode.
This can be enabled and disabled in BIOS or the HWSetup
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration -> Function key mode
    This mode can be changed
Also be sure that Function Button option is enabled too

  • my toshiba Satellite SA50-112 not entering into BIOS or CMOS setup because of F1 key is not functioning what i can do for changing the boot sequence to CDROM by alternative way.
please help us to work better

There are THREE ways to make your notebook boot from CD:
    1) You can adjust the BIOS setting by entering into it with the key 'ESC' (not F1 as you said before)
    2) You can boot directly on CD by holding down the key 'C' during starup
    3) You can make the 'Select Boot device menu' appear by holding down the 'F12' key.
All above key combinations work DURING STARTUP of your notebook only. Therefor try your timing ;)
    Good luck :)

    Hi
Why do you think that the motherboard is ok?
Maybe its a keyboard controller issue
Did you check if the cable was connected properly?
In my opinion if you are 100% sure that the keyboard is ok then the issue must be related to the motherboard because there is no other part which is placed between the keyboard and mobo.

  • Hi,
I've started my old Satellite 3000-214 Notebook and suddenly my Ctrl-key did not work anymore.
I've already tried to clean the keyboard by unmounting all keys from it and cleaning the foils, without success.
Can anyone tell me where I can get a suitable keyboard from (I live in germany)?
Does it has to be an original Toshiba keyboard or can it be from an other manufacturer?
How can I remove the keyboard from the laptop? Do I have to open the case or is it possible to get it out with a screwdriver or something?
    Thx for any hint!
    Best regards.
    Ting

    Hi
You should use the original Toshiba keyboard which is supported and compatible with this notebook.
All parts and devices you can purchase from the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country. The full database with worldwide ASP you can find on the Toshiba European support page.
Usually if you want to remove the keyboard you have to remove firstly the thin cover above the keyboard.
There you will find two screws which secure the keyboard. After removing of these two screws you will be able to put out the keyboard.
But be careful; the keyboard is connected with the flat cable to the motherboard.

  • Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P305-S8820. I recently did a clean install of Windows 7. I have loaded the Toshiba value added driver pack and the trackpad driver but still cannot get the trackpad or the FN key to work.
    Any ideas?

    Hello John
You are like other millions other users and what you can read is relevant for you but sometimes it works a little bit different. For you it can be useless but sometimes it helps. Fact is that this utility is offered for some notebook models.
Generally speaking you are right and after VAP installation the job should be done but Ive faced the same problem in the past. Sometimes it works well and sometimes not. You will not believe me but in the past I used stuff for Satellite P300 to get all stuff working on Satellite A350. I cannot explain why this happen and it sounds crazy but it is the truth.
You can also try to play a little bit with VAP installation. Try to install VAP for A300/A350/P300. Generally speaking it is the same and if this will not work well you can remove it from the system.
Launcher for flash cards? It must be listed in MSCONFIG > startup > TcrdMain.exe

  • I recently formatted my laptop after the OS was corrupted by a virus and reinstalled windows 7 but now my Function keys that enable me to adjust brightness, volume and turn on wireless are not functioning, They only work when in BIOS setup and even when I tried to enable them to be standard F1-12 or special function keys they still dont work after starting windows. This computer has no flash cards for toshiba and i dont know which drivers to look for for this specific model. I also lost toshiba eco-utility and its player. How do i get all this back without losing my data?I have partitioned my hard disk.

    Hi Eldorado
Thanks for your suggestion. Have done as you said but still have the problem.
I've managed to get rid of the TouchED error dialogue by uninstalling the Touchpad on/off utility, but I can't get the function keys to work again. The problem appears to be that the Common Modules drivers are not reinstalling properly - the software (thotkey.exe) that operates these has to be within this. I have tried extracting the cab files for the Common Modules but nothing with let me into Toshiba's cab files to see if they are there so that I can copy them across manually.
I can live without the function keys on my machine, but this is a pain - especially when I'm sure the problem has a simple solution.
    Cheers
    David

  • After upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 the feather touch media keys are not working. The bluetooth perpheral device drivers are also missing.Pl help...

Try downloading the Windows 7 drivers. You can get them from here:
    http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows7/download/Satellite_A350_32_cae.htm
The buttons are controlled by Toshiba Value added software. There is a bluetooth stack you may need to install. You may want to add the rest of the windows 7 drivers. The display and sound drivers will give you additional HDMI support that the native driver does not support.
    Good luck

  • Hi all
I can't get the FN key to work, no matter how many times I reinstall Toshiba software, it just doesn't seem to work!
    Anyone got a workaround?
    I'm using Bios 2.40, and Vista 32bit

    Hi
If you installed your OS manually the right installation order is necessary to get all Toshiba tools and notebook features working.
Please follow the installation instruction which can be found in the installation instruction txt file.
On the Toshiba European driver page you will find also the *Flash Card Support Utility 1.49.0.2C*. It is needed to use the Toshiba Flash Cards (FN + F* Keys).
Additionally the VAP must be installed too

  • Hi,
I am new to this forum and actually Toshiba related problems in general. :P
I own a Toshiba Satellite A300-PSAG4A laptop running on 32-bit Vista. A few days ago, the Harman/Kardon illumination music keys on it suddenly stopped working. When I'm not using my laptop, I usually put it into Sleep mode and normally wake it up using these touch keys - however for some reason they randomly stopped lighting up and responding.
I tried the usual - rebooting the laptop and frantically testing the buttons but of course they are not responding. The keys and the laptop in itself have served very well up until now an I can't think of any reason why this is happening now.
I'm not super-computer savvy however I have done a bit of reading on the topic of these keys and wanted to try reinstalling the Toshiba Value Added Package method - however I could not find the TVAP file anywhere on my laptop.
Additionally, Toshiba does not seem to offer support for my laptop series (A300-PSAG4A); their download section only caters to the ST series. Please correct me if I'm wrong - I could be searching right or whatever.
I performed a System Health Report to check if it's a driver-related issue and it came up with the following :
Two error messages stating that 'The device driver for Base System Device has not been installed' and one stating that 'The device driver for #UNKNOWN# has not been installed.
I don't know what any of those mean or if they are relevant to my problem.
    Please help?

Hi, thanks so much! That was really helpful, I didn't know Toshiba has separate sites for different continents. I live in New Zealand, so that'd be why it's an Australian series.
However I mentioned earlier that I can't find the VAP file anywhere on my computer. I have since done additional reading up the subject and learned that the package also enables the FN keys - which don't seem to be working at all. I'm pretty sure my laptop doesn't have the file on it (it is second-hand so the previous owner might have uninstalled it) unless there is some special way of searching for it? Where would it normally be located?

  • Hello,
Ive got a Satellite Pro 6100 notebook. Im having trouble using the secondary function keys (im not sure what they're called!). When I press the function (Fn) button, the light below the F10 button come on as it should, but when i press any of the F buttons i.e brightness up/down, nothing works!
I had a quick look at some of the keyboard help and troubleshooter in control panel which suggested the driver may be incorrect so i tried looking for an updated driver, but windows said i have the latest driver.
Does anybody else have this problem with the SP6100? Can it be fixed? If so how?!
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks - Kavi.

    Hi
Even the Windows said you use the latest drivers, you should reinstall the drivers.
Firstly remove the Hotkey Utility Emulator for Display Devices from Add & remove programs.
The reinstall the common modules and Hotkey Utility Emulator for Display Devices.
Hope it helps pleas let us known if it will work or not

  • I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 and downgraded the o/s to XP.
There is a problem with the FN key on the keyboard, it does not function. I dont know if this has something to do with the xp downgrade?
    Any ideas please?

If you have downgraded to Windows XP with the Microsoft disk you must install the Toshiba utilities and Hotkey Utility.
This is necessary for the FN keys in Windows XP so check the Toshiba website for these utilities:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

  • I have a problem with a Satellite A210-103. After installation of Toshiba Value Added Package (Flash Cards Support Utility not available for A210), reboot, restarting Toshiba Flash Cards and pressing the FN key several times the problem still exists.
It must have other reasons why so many user have problems with the FN keys.
    John

I have searched for A200 and A210 in the Toshiba sections of Equium, Satego, Satellite and Satellite Pro but their are no Flash card support utility. In the details of the 'Value added package' are the words:
'TOSHIBA Flash Cards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function and launches the other TOSHIBA utilities'
So I think it's useless to search for this utility. It's more important for me to know which files (like name of the launcher program) must be started to use the FN keys.

  • Hey all
i installed XP a few weeks back and updated the bios to the xp version
I didn't like it and i went back to vista but now my function doesn't work.
I press it and press the screen brightness key but the controls don't show up anymore and i have to manually use it with my mouse or through the mobility center
is it because of the bios? I downloaded the new vista bios and now it says that rom space is full and quits
What do i do? Help much appreciated

    Hi
The problem is that you need to update the BIOS to the XP version if you want to use all the notebook features on this notebook.
After the installation of XP you have to update the BISO XP and then you have to install all the available Toshiba XP drivers and utilities.
    This should helps.
