Looks like the 1018 was never supported under any version of Mac OS X.

I did find this page though http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/HP-Laserjet-1018-driver-for-iMac- OS-X-version-10-9-4/td-p/4367624 which asks the same question. The question was raised with a view to compatibility with Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.4). There is a link to download HP Printer drivers v3.1, and instructions to install and it seems some people have had success. As you have downloaded the later v5.0 of the HP drivers I think you will need to delete it from your system. The location is Macintosh HD/ Library/ Printers/ hp. Move the hp folder to your trash and then install the 3.1 version. Hope it works.

HP just lists Windows drivers for the 1018 on their web site. I don't know if there is any possibility that the 1022 driver would work since the printers are so similar. If this is a new printer, and you can't get it to work, you might talk to HP about exchanging it for the 1022. Foo2zjs drivers do work for HP laserjet 1018 on iMac Thanks Kurt, Durija, and Carl for your help in getting this to work. I just wanted to report that I did get the HP LaserJet 1018 to work with my new iMac (20' with OS X10.5.6) I followed Kurt Lang's suggestions, but must have made a mistake, as it didn't work the first time.
